About Us

Creating, Cultivating, and Curating in Community
An arts ministry based at Church of the Resurrection, Washington, D.C.

An apiary is a collection of bee hives, primarily maintained for honey. It is a place of communal creation, a locus of shared purpose and activity: the individual work and roles of bees are brought together to produce sweetness, structure, and nourishment. Beekeeping has a rich tradition within Christian monasteries. Not only the creation is done in community - the care for the creators and curation of their craft is communal as well.

The arts ministry at Church of the Resurrection grew out of casual gatherings of artists who attended Rez and wanted to encourage each other in their work. Through fellowship, practical support, and events in our church building and the homes of our community, we host concerts, songwriting retreats, poetry nights, creative commons, an annual artist-in-residence, discussion groups, and arts markets. As the Apiary, our vision is to gather artists, curators, patrons, and appreciators into a cultivating, creating community, reflecting the Trinity who said, “Let us make.”
